Education
Louisiana State University, Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a Minor in Structural Engineering. Structural Engineering concerns itself with the design of beams, columns, footings, walls and related elements that give strength the structure such as: commercial buildings, houses, towers, bridge, damns, oil platforms, etc. Structural Engineering relays heavily on mathematical models to predict the behavior of the several structural elements to the loadings they will be exposed to during the life of the structure.
Experience
I have tutored my two sons and daughter during their high school years; the courses were Math and Spanish. In addition, I have tutored my oldest son in Physics I, during his sophomore year in college. Finally, I have recently tutored a college student friend in Statics and Strength of Materials (two courses in the Civil Engineering curriculum). More to their credit than to my tutoring, they have never failed any of the classes I tutored them in, but I am glad I was able to contribute to their learning. At the suggestion of the friend, who is attending college and who I have recently helped with the college courses mentioned above, I have decided to pursue tutoring because I enjoy helping to clarify the subject matter; in the process, I have learned that I learn more of the subject I’m tutoring than when I studied the subject as a student. My goal is to clarify the subject matter such that he/she can make independent decision come test time. I tend to use every day examples in life to help the student understand the concepts. As an example, the representation of points in a Cartesian Plane is similar to the location of houses in a map, thereby removing some of the mystery some students encounter when learning math. As a high school student, I have had the opportunity to learn arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. As a college student, I have had the opportunity to learn Calculus I, II and III, and Differential Equations As a Civil Engineering major, I have the opportunity to learn, Statics, Strength of Material, and Structural Analysis I (amongst other courses). Therefore, I am willing and able to offer my help in any of these matters.
